About Wijeyeratne & Company

Wijeyeratne and Company was registered in the year 1949 and is one of the oldest local firms of Chartered Accountants in Sri Lanka. The primary function of the firm is to provide Audit, Accountancy and Taxation services to Clients.

The founder, late Mr. C. B. Wijeyeratne, completed a degree in Natural Science and went to London where he completed his studies at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He returned to Sri Lanka in 1948 and subsequently established the firm. The following members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales later the following became partners of the firm; late Mr. M. J. Alles, late Mr. D. Martin and the late Mr. A. Brito Mutunayagam. In 1966 these three partners resigned from the partnership. In 1968, Mr. K. B. Ambanpola, B.Sc., FCA (England and Wales) joined the practice. It continued in this manner until 1983 when the firm merged with Thiagarajah and Company, and Mr. M. Thiagarajah, B. A., FCA (England and Wales), who was the correspondent for Peat, Merwick, Mitchell and Company, became a partner. However, when Mr. Thiagarajah who was affected by the civil disturbances in 1983, left the partnership to go to London, the correspondent status was lost.

In 1982, the late Mr. U. Dharmasekara, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka joined the partnership. In 1986, He was followed by Mr. B. A. Hulangamuwa, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountsnts of Sri Lanka, who subsequently completed a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Colombo. The founder of the firm Mr. C. B. Wijeyeratne passed away in 1987 and his son Mr. C. S. Wijeyeratne, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, returned from abroad, to join the partnership. Mr. K. B. Ambanpola retired from the partnetship to pursue a career as a Lecturer at a University in Singapore. The late Mr. U. Dharmasekara passed away in 1992. Two more members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka joined the firm in 1998, when Mr. A. C. M. Fernando an Associate Chartered Accountant, who has a MBA degree from USA, returned from abroad and Ms. W. J. L. S. Fernando (ACA), who was with the firm from 1985, became partners. Mr. A. C. M. Fernando left the partnership in March 2000. Mr. B. A. Hulangamuwa left the partnership in March 2001. In April 2001 Mrs. J. T. C. Wijeyeratne and Mrs. I. Hettiaarachchi became Partners. However, due to their leaving the Partnership, three New Partners namely, Mrs. D. N. Perera, Mrs. N. S. Perera and Mr. P. D. R. L. Kithudasa have joined the Partnership. Mrs. J. T. C. Wijeyeratne remains as a Consultant on Taxation matters. Mr. P. D. R. L. Kithudasa resigned from the partnership in December 2005.

The existing clientele of W & Co Group includes over 300 public and private companies, non-profit organisations and partnerships. Tax clients of the firm, including individuals to be seviced by Wijeyeratne and Company exceeds 350.

Wijeyeratne and Comnpany became a member firm of Moores Rowland International from January 2001.< However this international association was disbanded in 2007.

The firm is in the process of finding a new international link up in the near future.

We have appointed three new audit managers with the effect from 1st April 2008. They are;

  1. Mr. Indika Galagedara.
  2. Ms. Daisy Amarasinghe.
  3. Kr. Indrajith Attapattu.

All three audit managers will sit the final(2) exams in April 2008.
